You kidding me? Tuberville is a WVU fan now
Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville was not a big fan of West Virginia becoming the 10th member of the Big 12, and he questioned why WVU would pay $20 million to get out of the Big East. After spending months bashing the Mountaineers, Tuberville is now following the company line. In fact, he sounds like he's ready to make a donation to WVU because he loves the place so much.
While speaking with MetroNews Statewide Sportsline late last week, Tuberville gushed about the atmosphere in Morgantown. See, Tuberville experienced it first-hand when Auburn was defeated by WVU 34-17 in 2008. He was also an assistant at Miami when the highly ranked Hurricanes were upset 17-14 in front of a hostile crowd.
"It reminded me of SEC football in terms of tailgating and fan support," he said on West Virginia radio program. "It was very rowdy. It's a great place for college football."
Tuberville didn't stop there. He also believes (or at least he wants to believe) that the Big 12 has surpassed the SEC as the top conference because of the addition of WVU and TCU. Apparently he doesn't think too much of Texas A&M and Missouri, which departed for the SEC, which has won the past six BCS National Champs.
"I wouldn't be surprised — with West Virginia coming in with (Geno Smith) — if they're predicted to win the conference in their first year," he said.
I'd be all for them winning it, but while many WVU fans can be a bit delusional about the talent in Morgantown, the more rational fans understand that Oklahoma, Texas, TCU, Kansas State and Oklahoma State are all going to be tough games.
But it's nice to see Tommy's is finally drinking the WVU Kool-Aid.
