Podcast: Episode 142

In that time between the regular season concluding and the start of the bowl season can feel like three months. Well, that time is almost up and Phil and Tom look at some of the early bowl games.

It's also the time of year where we have coaches being hired all over the place, including a few interesting hires. Let's just say Phil thinks Tennessee really blew it with the Butch Jones' hire. Both Phil and Tom question if Bret Bielema can hack it in the SEC as well.

Enjoy our latest show.

Podcast: Episode 141

Written by Phil Shie on .

On the night we officially learned Notre Dame and Alabama will meet for the BCS Championship, we also discovered that MAC-tion is alive and well. That's right, Northern Illinois is BCS-bowling against Florida State in the Orange Bowl.

With all 807 bowl games set, one team will be staying home. That's right, Phil's Ohio State Buckeyes. Does he care? A little bit, but since Urban Meyer led OSU to a win over rival Michigan he's not to upset. Of course, he would like the Buckeyes chances against Notre Dame if they did meet.

Enjoy the show!

We're sorry for our two-week hiatus, but real-life gets in the way sometimes. However, we're back just in time for all of the hoopla surrounding the Big Ten's big announcement — Rutgers and Maryland are joining the league. Wow, that's two big-time programs. Almost makes you forget that Notre Dame has spurned the Big Ten countless times.

Phil and Tom also look at Ohio State's final game of the season, what happened with West Virginia and the coaching vacancies that are starting to pile up, including Jeff Tedford and Derek Dooley.

It's not often that both Phil and Tom get to enjoy big wins in the same weekend. But Ohio State thrashed Nebraska at home, while WVU held off Texas on the road. In fact, Tom feels the win in Austin legitimizes WVU's lofty ranking and earned the program some much-needed cred among the national media.

Phil and Tom also look at some of the other weekend's big games, including Georgia-South Carolina. We also look ahead to games like Stanford at Notre Dame and Texas vs. Oklahoma. We hope you enjoy the show.

It's a big week for WVU and Ohio State as both try to remain undefeated, while also facing their biggest challenges of the season.

We look at the Mountaineers' chances of going to Austin and taking down the Texas Longhorns, and then we switch gears and have a little more optimistic outlook on the Buckeyes' hopes with Nebraska at home.

We also take a look at some of the other big games of the weekend, including Georgia-South Carolina and LSU-Florida. And naturally, there is just some good ol' fun banter between our hosts.

For three consecutive football weekends, Phil has enjoyed (and doled out plenty of cash) attending Ohio State football in the Horseshoe. Now he's looking forward to another week of "competitive football" against the University of Alabama ... from Birmingham.

Naturally, in this week's show we talk about the Buckeyes scare against Jeff Tedford's Cal team, as well as WVU's easy win over James Madison. Both of our schools also have legitimate Heisman candidates in Braxton Miller and Geno Smith, but do either Phil or Tom really believe either will win the award?

We also touch on the unbelievable notion that just two years after winning a national championship, Auburn fans are irritated enough with Gene Chizik that rumors of canning the coach are out there. Thankfully they have the Paul Finebaum show to voice their displeasure in what's going on down on The Plains.

With Notre Dame preparing to leave the Big East and join the ACC in all sports but football, should the conference members be excited or should they talk to some Big East officials to see how they feel about the arrangement?

Our Big East expert Tom says the move makes sense, but don't expect the honeymoon to last long if Notre Dame starts swiping ACC bowl bids.

It's also nice to have Phil regale us in his tales of watching the Buckeyes from the President's Box, and a look ahead to Cal coming to Columbus. We also give you some insight into the biggest games of the weekend, including Alabama at Arkansas and Florida at Tennessee.

We hope you enjoy the show.
