In case you aren't watching Navy at Ball State right now let's make one thing clear -- Ball State quarterback Nate Davis can really play. You don't hear about him in the national media quite so much, but I think this guy has NFL potential. He's extremely athletic and has the ability to play on BSU's basketball team. He was stud hoopster and football player at Bellaire High School in Ohio.

FINAL- Vandy 24-17. Wow. How bad is NC State? No way Carolina was a ranked team. (Please do not look at our poll below.)
7:39 Fourth quarter: And of course, it takes less than two minutes for Carolina to score. 24-17 Vandy. Great scramble from Smelley earlier in the drive.
9:28 Fourth quarter 24-10 Vandy. Holy Crap! Vandy scored 24 points??? unreal if you watched the first half. South Carolina got frustrated and let it get to their heads. Hard to see USC scoring twice in 9 minutes, but ya never know...
10:29 Fourth quarter: Jesse Palmer has been borderline incoherent through this entire game, but he did make a salient point about Carolina seeming to lose its poise. And somehow that was not a facemask/horse collar??? What??? And the refs make up for it with a slightly questionable pass interference. not looking good for the Cocks right now.
3:53 3rd quarter: And Vandy takes the lead after a series of playcalling that finally put USC back on its heels. USC looks a little worn down on defense.
6:5- Third quarter: South Carolina responds with a nice drive, but it ends with a questions draw call on third and 8 that nets nothing and new Vandy blocks the field goal attempt. If Vandy can block anyone up front, the Dores have a chance.
10:00 third quarter: Vandy takes advantage with an ugly, but still 6-points TD. Now this is a game.
10:21 3rd quarter: Muffed punt recovery is a big break for Vandy which has continued to be unable to block Carolina up front. Carolina continues to just give Vandy chances to stay in the game.
Halftime: 10-3 South Carolina leads after a late field goal. nice play by the SC quarterback Smelley at the end of the half to feel the pressure and stay in field goal range. in this game, that might be a huge play.
Can someone tell me why Jesse Palmer is continually whooping in the background?
10:26 2nd: Ok. This game is going nowhere. Vandy cannot handle Carolina up front and as quick as the Vandy QB is, he basically has no chance to do anything. I'm calling a 13-0 final.
2:33 1st quarter: big pick for Vandy. Getting down two TDs would be bad news for the Dores. Sweet crackback block too!
6:00 nice catch on the fade route by SC. 7-0 Gamecocks.
I'm debating whether live blogging can survive four quarters of Craig James.
7:04 1st quarter: Sorry for the slow start, was eating a very messy dinner which hampers the blogging. Should be an exciting matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Under Armour University! no comments

UPDATE: Looks like three players will be suspended for Saturday's Oregon State game including PSU's best pass rusher, Maurice Evans. That makes this a curious matchup.
It's probably nothing, but hey, who doesn't like to see more Penn State players in trouble with Johnny Law?
As an Ohio State fan who's been through the arrest-public relations-your team is full of thugs rumor mill, it's always nice to see it happen to someone else. Anyone else.
And, in a bit of schadenfreude, it's especially nice to see it happen to Penn State, which has fans who are slightly self-righteous. Much in the way the Pope is Catholic.
Too bad they just missed the Fulmer Cup cutoff or perhaps the Nittany Lions could have moved up the list. no comments

Dear ESPN executives:
We are passionate viewers of college football. We love College Game Day. The insight and humor of Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and, sometimes, Lee Corso, are worth tuning into each Saturday.
But you have reached our tipping point. The creation of Dr. Lou (that lisping old coot) should cost someone their job (including Holtz). Please stop this joke.

Who says the media or coaches (we all know it's the SIDs who vote) know any more about ranking the best teams in college football than us. OT - great win for UCLA. Killer miss for UT. I was pretty much wrong all around on this game. And I couldn't be happier.
:00: I jinxed the hell out of that one. going to OT. I like UT in the overtime. UCLA thought they won with that last score. Tough to come back from this.
:27 UCLA scores. wow. Have to wonder if after the last two years, Fulmer will ever take his team to the West Coast again. I'm no Neuheisel lover as I find him a smug, arrogant jerk who thinks he's above the rules - but it's nice to see the SEC lose. does this start the Phil Fulmer early retirement plan? I'm probably talking too quickly. Still time left for a FG.
:49 Kevin Craft has turned into Troy Aikman in the last two drives. UCLA ball at the UT 28.
1:54 Fourth quarter: UT nice drive with short passes and smartly didn't give up on the running game. You could see UCLA's defense wearing down at the end of the drive. 21-17 Tennessee.
6:51 Fourth quarter: Wow. UCLA scores on a heck of a drive for QB Kevin Craft. Guess I'm the idiot. Blackledge is waxing poetic about Kevin Craft but the playcalling was different. Screens and slants were the difference. no deep stuff over the middle until that pass to the TE in which the safety got completely turned around. Also, interesting to see former OSU recruit Adam Myers-White from Hamilton playing OLB for the Vols. Myers-White was a DB in high school.
10:09 Fourth quarter: Somehow, one drive could win this for UCLA. Hard to believe. But they're across midfield with short throws and UT backed up in a zone. Have to believe UT will tighten up soon.
12:26 Fourth quarter: Big punt return for UT, but now it's third and nine. They just can't get the knockout blow. big sack for UCLA. gotta love how hard they're playing. long field goal attempt....and...delay of game. gotta punt it now, Fat Phil.
:16 Third quarter: I thought Crompton was a runner? I haven't seen the kid take off once. Wasn't he supposed to be mobile?
1:40 Third quarter: 14-10 UCLA kicks a field goal. Craft completes some nice short passes, but takes a bad sack on a play he should have audibled out of. Still, the Bruins are very much alive. UT just can't seem to put this one away.
6:41 Third quarter: By the way, Todd Blackledge and apparently Rick Neuheisel's worry that taking out UCLA QB Kevin Craft would "shatter his confidence" is, uh, completely ridiculous. He just tossed four INTs in the FIRST HALF. He's got no confidence - RIGHT NOW. Make the change if his backup can play at all.
10:17 Third quarter: UCLA lives! A fumble inside the 10 keeps the Bruins hopes alive after Jonathan Crompton morphed into Andy Kelly on the last drive. Memo to Rick and Norm: DO NOT THROW THE BALL DEEP or at all if you can help it.
Hafltime: 14-7 Tennessee
This seems like one of those games that's going to get out of hand in the second half. UCLA just has too many holes and can't make enough plays to overcome any kind of deficit. And if UT is smart, they'll just keep pounding. - Phil
:23 2nd quarter:
Letting Kevin Craft continue to sling the ball around like he's still in a meaningless game at San Diego State hurts the Bruins. Why are they throwing the ball at all at the end of the half? Gotta know the limitations of your players, Rick.
- Phil
4:12 2nd quarter:
It's becoming clear UCLA will have to win this game with duct tape and spit. They've got a quarterback who cannot throw the ball past 10 yards and no running game. UT may not have much more. Cromopton is under the impression his receivers are all Lew Alcindor. Not sure why UT is not just pounding the ball. Why even mess with the pass? - Phil no comments
