Holgorsen and his hair postgame at Texas

Written by Tom Perry on .

If you don't get too distracted by Dana Holgorsen's hair, which really has a personality of its own, there are some nice nuggets in this post-game interview with the WVU coach.

Of course, I'm too busy looking at his fine mane.

Mountaineers make a statement in Austin

Just when you thought you were going to see the Geno Smith show, along came sophomore Andrew Buie.

Mad scientist (and also coach) Dana Holgorsen definitely saw something in the way Oklahoma State ran the ball against Texas and he turned Buie loose on the Longhorns.

No one was talking about Buie before the game, but when it was over he had torched Texas for 209 yards and two touchdowns, including a key one that put WVU up by 10 with less than two minutes to play.

I’m still not used to the way the Big 12 plays defense, but the bigger surprise is Texas. The Longhorns were supposed to have the best unit in the Big 12, and many even considered them top 10 nationally. no comments

It's a big week for WVU and Ohio State as both try to remain undefeated, while also facing their biggest challenges of the season.

We look at the Mountaineers' chances of going to Austin and taking down the Texas Longhorns, and then we switch gears and have a little more optimistic outlook on the Buckeyes' hopes with Nebraska at home.

We also take a look at some of the other big games of the weekend, including Georgia-South Carolina and LSU-Florida. And naturally, there is just some good ol' fun banter between our hosts.

Introduction to Big 12 football is an exhausting experience

Following another West Virginia touchdown, a fan at Saturday’s game stood up and uttered the most prophetic words of the day.

“For everyone talking (crap) about our defense, it could be worse. We could have Baylor’s defense,” said the unknown fan just one row in front of me.

He was right, but not by much. no comments

Up Next for WVU: Baylor Bears

The non-conference part of West Virginia's schedule is finished and the Mountaineers did what they were supposed to do — go 3-0.

WVU's 31-21 victory over Maryland Saturday was uninspiring, but it's a win and Dana Holgorsen & Co. will take it. Now it's time to get ready for the first Big 12 game in Mountaineer history.

The Mountaineers will have their hands full with Baylor's offense, but the Bears' defense looks like it will struggle to contain Geno Smith, Tavon Austin and so on from WVU.

Mountaineers win, but Terps show off talented youngsters

tavon-austinWVU 31, Maryland 21: Yep, that score is right.

West Virginia, who was more than a three-touchdown favorite, faced a stiffer challenge than any Mountaineer expected from the Terps.

So how was Maryland able to keep it so close with eighth-ranked WVU? no comments

For three consecutive football weekends, Phil has enjoyed (and doled out plenty of cash) attending Ohio State football in the Horseshoe. Now he's looking forward to another week of "competitive football" against the University of Alabama ... from Birmingham.

Naturally, in this week's show we talk about the Buckeyes scare against Jeff Tedford's Cal team, as well as WVU's easy win over James Madison. Both of our schools also have legitimate Heisman candidates in Braxton Miller and Geno Smith, but do either Phil or Tom really believe either will win the award?

We also touch on the unbelievable notion that just two years after winning a national championship, Auburn fans are irritated enough with Gene Chizik that rumors of canning the coach are out there. Thankfully they have the Paul Finebaum show to voice their displeasure in what's going on down on The Plains.

OSU-Cal: Another spectacular run by Miller

It wasn't Ohio State's best performance, but it's very clear that Urban Meyer has found a budding star at quarterback in Braxton Miller.
